Richard retired as senior partner at Kingstone surgery in April 2022, having been a GP for 33 years. He now works in a non-clinical role at the surgery, providing management advice and support.

He has previously been joint Medical Director of Herefordshire PCT and subsequently Medical Advisor when he was also appraisal lead for the PCT. He has also held roles within the Commission for Health Improvement and the Healthcare Commission and been an assessor for the National Clinical Assessment Service
