FREE NHS Workplace Health Checks

Early detection can save lives!

Our workplace cardiovascular disease health checks help identify early signs of heart disease, stroke risk and diabetes. By providing employees with vital health information, we empower them to take proactive steps towards a healthier future.

Investing in employee well-being leads to a more engaged, productive, and resilient team.

Health checks are available to all of your employees aged between 18 – 74 years.

What is involved in an NHS workplace health check?

Blood pressure check

Cholesterol test

General health and wellbeing check

Guidance on maintaining a healthy lifestyle

Signposting to other support and services that may be available

How do we do the tests?

Tests are done through a simple pin prick test, with results provided during the appointment – this means we can give your staff their results in this appointment.  We will provide your employee with all their results to take away, as well as adding this to their NHS medical records.

We know that many people don’t have time to visit their GP for a health check while they are at work.  By bringing our team of healthcare professionals to your business, more employees will access their free NHS health check and reduce their risk of a heart attack, stroke or type 2 diabetes.  This also supports employers to contribute to a healthier workforce, reduced sickness and a happier workplace culture.

What do we need from employers?

All we need from you as an employer is a small private room where we can provide our appointments from.  Each appointment can take up to 30 minutes and we hope to see up to 12 people a day.  Don’t worry if you don’t have space in your workplace though.  We can also provide appointments at our Community Health Hub in Nelson House (opposite Sainsburys in Hereford city), or find another suitable outreach location close to your workplace.

What is cardiovascular disease and why is it important to detect risk early?

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) refers to a group of conditions that affect the heart and blood vessels, including coronary heart disease, stroke, and peripheral arterial disease. These conditions often develop due to the build-up of fatty deposits inside the arteries, a process known as atherosclerosis, which can lead to blockages and reduced blood flow.

Detecting CVD early is crucial because many of its initial stages are silent, showing no obvious symptoms. Early detection allows for timely intervention through lifestyle changes and medical treatments, significantly reducing the risk of severe events like heart attacks or strokes. In England, CVD is responsible for one in four premature deaths and accounts for the largest gap in healthy life expectancy. Those in the most deprived 10% of the population are almost twice as likely to die as a result of CVD than those in the least deprived 10%.

Regular cardiovascular health checks can identify risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and atrial fibrillation early on. By managing these conditions promptly, individuals can maintain better heart health and reduce the likelihood of life-threatening complications.
