Taurus Healthcare has published its Annual Report for 2023/24.

The report shows that Herefordshire General Practice, including Taurus Healthcare, delivered more than three quarters of a million routine appointments to patients between 1 October 2023 and 30 September 2024.

In addition, over 19,500 Out of Hours Urgent GP appointments were provided in the evening and weekends by Taurus and an additional 36,466 remote patient consultations were delivered through Taurus Healthcare’s Herefordshire Remote Health (HRH) service.

Close to 100,000 covid vaccinations were delivered by Herefordshire General Practice and Taurus in the year’s covid vaccination campaigns (autumn 2023 and spring 2024) and around 5,000 NHS Health Checks were also provided.

The report outlines progress made by the Federation and Herefordshire General Practice against a number of objectives:

• Integration
• Prevention and tackling health inequalities
• Supporting general practice resilience.

Highlights include:

• Development of the Urgent Community Response Hub, a joint initiative between Wye Valley NHS Trust and Taurus Healthcare.
• The purchase by Taurus of  a new premises at Nelson House, Whitecross Road, Hereford, expected to deliver significant annual cost savings.
• The work of the Talk Wellbeing preventative healthcare service.
• The ‘novation’ of Much Birch Surgery, effectively meaning that Taurus became responsible for the delivery of the General Medical Service Contract and practice team.

Mike Hearne, Managing Director at Taurus and a GP Partner at Fownhope Surgery, concludes the report by outlining the challenges in the forthcoming years for General Practice. He says:

“Despite all of the challenges, we remain passionate and committed to the vital role General Practice plays within the healthcare system.”
