Patients have the power in 'Know Your Numbers' week
Next week (2-8 September) is national ‘Know Your Numbers’ week. Promoted through Blood Pressure UK, it is the UK’s biggest blood pressure testing and awareness event.
The theme for this year’s campaign is ‘You Have the Power’ and will encourage people to check or get their blood pressure checked as a first step to preventing heart attacks and strokes.
We will be joining the campaign by promoting the opportunity for adults to drop in and have their blood pressure checked at our Talk Wellbeing Hub or pop-ups. This service is available throughout the year but Know Your Numbers week provides us with the opportunity to promote it further.
We can also offer support and advice to people who have home blood pressure monitors and want to know what to do next if their readings are high.
High blood pressure is a major cause of heart attack and stroke but often has no symptoms – until it’s too late. By knowing what their blood pressure is and understanding what this means, people with high blood pressure can get the treatment and support they need to bring it under control.
